Child-friendly cafes in Oslo
(See further down for restaurants with playrooms and activity bags for older kids. See also further down for cafes that open super early and nice picnic spots in Oslo!)
I recommend the apps called Lilly Maps and ByBaby - Oslo. These show on a map the cafes close by where you can bring your stroller inside and it informs you which cafes have changing tables. Very useful, especially when you´re out strolling and there´s a small accident and you need to find a changing table quick!
Here are some of my own favorites (NB: This is a page in the making that is continuously updated, so please feel free to send me suggestions! And if you want monthly updates with new cafes, strolls and more, subscribe here):

Along the Akerselva River / Sagene / Bjølsen / Nydalen / Torshov
For trolley rides along Akerselva I like the homely Hønselovisas house (has a changing table and chairs) and Mat og mer, close to Nøstebarn (with chairs, space for changing diapers and nice couches to breastfeed in). Nazar cafe in Sagene Samfunnshus is probably the most baby-friendly cafe in town, with its own little area for kids with mats and toys, as well as changing tables and chairs. Godt Brød in Nydalen has changing tables and space for plenty of strollers inside :) In the summer (1 April - 1 October) Trikkestallen in Torshov has a wonderful patio. And let´s not forget Mathallen, which is a good starting point or end point for walks along the river - lots of space for strollers inside and a changing table in the toilet upstairs. Check out the route for the stroll here. Grunerløkka The most child-friendly café in town is Kanskje kommer Kongen in Markveien - a play area, tons of space, changing table and a terrasse in the summer :) In Grunerløkka I like Cocoa in Birkelunden for good cocoa, carrot cake and nice sofas for Theo to lie on, although they have no changing table. What they DO have, however, is a window through which you can buy your smoothie or cocoa so you don´t have to stop strolling! :) In Markveien, you´ve got Liebling on the top of Markveien for a delicious brunch, Espresso House with space for some strollers, Chillout down in the basement for nice breastfeeding chairs and cozy atmosphere and Bugges (they have a changing table). In Thorvald Meyers gate there is child-friendly Creperie de Mari with delicious pancakes, high chairs and changing table, opens at 10 Mon-Sat, 11 on Sundays. Godt Brød that has a changing table and room for strollers, Fru Hagen that allows you to let your kid sleep outside your window and has room in the toilet for changing diapers and there´s the cosy basement of Grunerløkka Bakeri, which also has a changing table. And in Korsgata, between Thorvald Meyers gate and Markveien you´ll find Kolonihagen with a changing table and high chairs. And again let´s not forget Mathallen, with lots of space for strollers inside and a changing table in the toilet upstairs. By Sofienbergparken you have Egget Kafé with space inside for strollers, changing table and you can sit by the window looking out at the stroller. Room for mat groups and a great patio! Frogner/Majorstua In Majorstua the Espresso House in Valkyries gate has lots of space for strollers and they have wifi and changing tables. In Frognerveien Fresko, Fedora and Kolonihagen Frogner are popular - good food and changing tables/benches. United Bakeries in Frogner is also nice and has a changing table. In Frognerparken you can change diapers at Oslo Bymuseum :) Coffi in Kirkeveien 48 has a changing table and some toys for slightly older kids, and you can bring in your stroller if it´s not too full. By Slottsparken both Litteraturhuset and Espresso House have changing tables. Litteraturhuset also has a play room for little ones and they organize lots of activities for children - check their website. In Kafe Caffe in Parkveien you can bring in the stroller, there´s good space and they have a changing table. Grønland / Tøyen / Kampen The cafe in the Botanical Garden is very child-friendly. Note: Closed on Mondays. The cafe at the Munch Museum has a changing table and room for strollers. In this regard I should also mention the guided Baby Scream Tours (in Norwegian...). Nearby you have the café Carinas - very child-friendly with a changing table, high chairs, children´s books and a playground right outside. In Kampen there´s a really nice cafe called Javelin in Bøgata 10. It has a changing table and chairs for children. In Gamlebyen Stockfleths allows 2 strollers inside and they have a changing table and high chairs. Bislett / Sankthanshaugen I recommend Godt Brød in Thereses gate and Espresso House in Waldemar Tranes gate in Sankthanshaugen. They both have a changing table and room for strollers inside. Personally I love the Espresso House as it´s got plenty of sofas to sink into and free wifi :) From May to October you can sit outside at the Stensparken Café on the top of the Stensparken parc and eat or drink while rocking your stroller or while your kid is playing in the fountain. City Centre / Aker Brygge / Vika The café Formosa Te in Tullinsgate 4 by Holbergs plass has a play area, a changing table and room for strollers inside :) Espresso House in Pilestredet by Holbergs plass has a changing table, high chairs and big windows so that you can keep an eye on the stroller outside. In Tjuvholmen you can change a diaper and bring the stroller inside at Waynes Coffee. Bergshaven Bakeri is also child-friendly with a changing table, high chairs, pillows to breastfeed on and space for 2 strollers inside. The same goes for Bagel&Juice in Vika and the cafe upstairs in House of Oslo. The latter also has a breast feeding room and a microwave! The Espresso House has recently opened a cafe with room for strollers and a changing table opposite Klingenberg Kino by the National Theatre :) I also strongly recommend Sukkerbiten between Sørenga and the Opera on a sunny day during summer. I don´t know if they have a changing table, but you can easily change the diaper on the grass and with a seaview! Open from May 2nd Tuesday-Sunday from 12. Bygdøy: Café Hemma Hos in Bygdøy is a winner! Very cosy cafe with a changing table, children´s stools and delicious food. Combine it with a trip to Huk and Paradisbukta - check out suggestions for strolls here. I have also been recommended Brødbakerne in Sjølyst/Skøyen, where they have a changing table, high chairs and delicious pastries :) Sandvika It´s worth mentioning Sandvika Storsenter! They have a De har play room with a cafe and they even offer child care!!! You can also enjoy a coffee at at Kanel Bakeri and Artista Gallericafé (closed Mondays, otherwise open from 11), both with changing tables and nice patios :) Nice to combine them with a stroll around Kalvøya - check out stroll 18 here. See also Mammadamen´s list of 16 child-friendly cafes in Oslo and Tyggo´s list from 2011.
Most places you can´t bring the stroller inside, only the bassinet. Unfortunately most Norwegian cafes don´t have changing tables, but as long as you have a changing mat you can change your baby´s diapers virtually anywhere :) Well, before he or she starts with solids, I hear... |
